It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

I'm a day late, but It's Monday, What Are you Reading over at The Book Date is a fun way to keep track of your reading each week. The idea is to share books you've been reading or that you finished over the past week, and also share what you're diving into this week.

Last week I finished Bonnie Jo Campbell's new book of short stories, Mothers, Tell Your Daughters. I'm not usually a huge fan of short story collections, since I prefer the experience of getting lost in a long novel, but these stories are so compelling, I couldn't put the book down. Since Campbell is from Kalamazoo, Michigan, many of the stories are set in Southwestern Michigan, which is also where I live - so this added to the appeal of the book for me. Her novel, Once Upon a River, is also set in Michigan, and is one of my favorite books of all time.

This week I'm working on four books. One novel called The Little Paris Bookshop, by Nina George (translated from French), which is about a lonely man who runs a bookshop in Paris, located on a barge. As a book lover, I'm drawn to books about bookstores, and so far, 56 pages in, this is one of the best. I've also got three books of nonfiction going (these will probably take me a couple weeks to finish): Searching for Sunday, by Rachel Held Evans; The Last Love Song: A Biography of Joan Didion, by Tracy Daugherty; and The Highly Sensitive Person: How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You, by Elaine N. Aron.
