It's Monday, What Are You Reading?
Good week last week: I finished three books! Grit: Passion, Perseverance, and the Science of Success, by Angela Duckworth; The Girls, by Emma Cline; and The One and Only, by Emily Giffin. I've tried to read Emily Giffin's novels in the past and haven't liked them, but I listened to The One and Only on audiobook and I enjoyed it very much! Her books tend to be quite plot driven, so I think it worked well for my long drives, and the woman who read the book did a great job. I enjoyed listening to her voice. So I'm going to try listening to another Giffin book on audio this week. I'm discovering that a good voice and a gripping plot are the most important things to me while I'm driving, whereas quality of writing tends to usurp most other things about a book when I'm reading it on the page.
This week I'm working on five books. Several of these are longer, more academic works so they will probably take me weeks, or even months, to finish: The History of Work, by Richard Donkin and The Life of Thomas More, by Peter Ackroyd (my favorite biographer). I'm also starting Kazim Ali's new book of poetry, Sky Ward, as well as a memoir called The time Mom met Hitler, Frost came to dinner, and I heard the Greatest Story every told, by Dikkon Eberhart, and a novel, The Altogether Unexpected Disappearance of Atticus Craftsman.

It's so interesting to see that some books work really well as audiobooks and some really don't! I hope you have a great week. :)
