It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Last week I started and finished Eligible, by Curtis Sittenfeld. It only took me a couple of days to read the whole 492 page book, so it was generally an enjoyable experience, though I felt the book "jumped the shark," so to speak, at one point. No spoilers -- you'll see what I mean if you read the book. Anyway, it's a contemporary version of Pride and Prejudice, and it was fun to see the similarities and differences with the original story. I've read all of Sittenfeld's novels, and my favorite one is still her first book, Prep. I also finished Prince Caspian, which I read aloud to my children. I've read the book probably ten times myself, so it was fun to share it with my kids! We've moved on to Voyage of the Dawn Treader now.

This week I'm still reading The Art of Memoir, by Mary Karr and Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, by Angela Duckworth. It usually take me longer to read nonfiction books -- even books I'm enjoyed a lot -- than it does to read fiction, since there's no plot to string me along. I also started reading a biography of Thomas More, by Peter Ackroyd. (Yes, I have very eclectic reading tastes!) And then Liane Moriaty's new novel, Truly Madly Guilty which so far is proving very difficult to put down.

  1. I love that you are reading the Narnia books to your kids. My son went ahead and took the collection and finished it himself. I'll have to see if I can read some to my daughter.

    Happy reading!

  3. I am keen to read Eligible, I loved hearing your thoughts on the book, thanks for sharing. I went to an author event to meet Liane Moriarty to mark the release of Truly Madly Guilty. I haven't got around to reading it yet. I'm a glad to hear you are having trouble putting it down! I need to bump it up to the top of my TBR pile.
    Have a great week!
