It's Monday! What Are You Reading?
For Thankfully Reading 2013 Weekend I finished The Roswell Poems, by Rane Arroyo, which I am teaching in my science fiction literature class this week. I found a great National Geographic documentary to go with the book, for background information. (Disclaimer: I edited this book for WordFarm press.) I also read another chapter of A Dash of Style: The Art and Mastery of Punctuation, by Noah Lukeman, which I've been reading slowly over a period of several months. I plan to read more of that this week, as it's useful for the Introduction to Creative Writing class I'll be teaching next semester.
I'm also continuing to read Xenocide, by Orson Scott Card, which is part of his Ender's Game series. I taught Ender's Game in my sci fi class, and even though I've read the series many, many times, I wanted to re-read the series again after teaching Ender's Game. One of the things I love best about this series is the character development. I started Flight Behavior, by Barbara Kingsolver as well, but I have a hard time reading more than one novel at once, so I'll probably put that aside until I finish Xenocide.
I'm also making my way through another book of poems, now that I've finished Roswell. This one is Clangings, by Steven Cramer, which is a dramatic monologue in the voice of a character suffering from schizophrenia or mania. And then a 600 page biography of Walt Whitman, which will probably take me many months to finish.

I wonder if I would like the Enders Game series?
ReplyDeleteIf you have any interest in sci fi you probably would. In my opinion, it's one of the best sci fi series around.
